The USA is different in many ways and that also concerns their health system, their nature catastrophes and the safety. Since the health system in the USA is not the same as in Austria we would recommend getting a travel insurance as you are backed up by an agency if you come across an health issue while doing your roadtrip. The choice of your travel insurance is based on your preferences but we can recommend the Allianz an Austrian company that provides many offers for travelling and they also have a special offers for tourist that are doing a roadtrip.

Inoculation and Illnesses

We would recommend getting all the basic inoculations before heading to the US. Additionally you should get inoculations for Hepatitis A and B as you could come across regions that are not as equipped with hospitals or they might be at a great distance from your location.

West Nil Virus

The West Nil Virus also called WNV is a RNA- Virus that came up in the 1999 in the Western tropical regions of the USA. The virus is transferred by mosquitos or birds onto the human body but humans are exceptionally affected. In 80 % of the infected the human body did not react to the virus but the other 20 % that were sick showed symptoms like high fever, headache, swellings and muscle weakness between 3 and 14 days after the infections. These symptoms indicate the flu as well and are harmful as the body cures itself but meningitis also a potential side effect from WNV that less than 1 % got from the West Nil Virus could lead to death.
